Basil L. Moore

Basil LaVerne Moore, age 81, of Holly, MI died on October 27, 2023. Basil was born on September 5, 1942 in Detroit, MI to his parents Morton and Siiri Moore. Basil attended grade school at Holy Cross Lutheran School in Detroit and graduated from Lutheran High School West in Detroit. After graduation he worked at Ford Motor Company for 31 years before retiring in 1994 and moving to Holly. Basil loved music, dogs, cars and was a very good bowler while he was still able to. He was a great handyman who could fix just about anything. Basil spent his spare time watching old western shows like “Gun Smoke”, “Have Gun Will Travel” and “The Riffleman” and occasionally would listen to music from his record collection. He would read every newspaper he could get from front to back, every article, and every page. He was a joker with a great sense of humor and was known as “the king of one liners”. He was a lifelong Lutheran and a current member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MI. Basil is survived by his son Steven Scott (Robin) Moore, step brothers; Kenneth Edwards and Robert Edwards, step sisters; Joanne Riese, Wendy Fishback (Plew) and Karen Plew, daughter in law Emily Garthe, sister in law Marilyn Vivian, cousins; Rae Marie Klobucher, Cindy Taffee and Tom Taffee, 12 nieces and nephews, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and lifelong friends Annette Boyd, Don Boyd, Kimberly Doljesi, Fred Campbell Jr. and Don Prescot. He was preceded in death by his parents Morton Wellington Moore and Siiri Helmi Bjerkness, Edwards, Moore, wife Marilyn R. (Vivian) Moore, son Thomas Todd Moore, step fathers; Jack Edwards and Ruben Bjerkness, father in law William Vivian, mother in law Alma Vivian, step mother in law Phylis Vivian (Plew), step brother Bob Plew, step sister Anita Plew, brother in laws; Jack Vivian and William Vivian and sister in law Virginia Vivian. A visitation will be held on Friday Nov. 3, 2023 from 2-9PM at the Dryer Funeral Home in Holly. The funeral service will be held on Saturday Nov. 4, 2023 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ortonville with Rev. Dr. Mark J. Hill officiating, with a visitation from 10AM until the time of service. Burial will take place in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West following the service.
