David William Maguire

David William Maguire, age 83 passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022, at Trinity Health (Saint Joseph Mercy Oakland) in Pontiac. Born March 30th, 1939, in Pontiac, MI. David was the oldest of 7 children to J.W. (Mac) & Ruth (Watson) Maguire. He is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest sister Beverly (Macadaeg). He is survived by his wife Cynthia (Beerbohm) Maguire, his children Christopher (Missy) Maguire & Holly (Maguire) Selden, his siblings, Sue Maguire, Lora (Joe) Cole, Mary Maguire (Michael Boyd), Martha (Jon) Ritter and Paul Maguire, along with his 3 grandchildren: Morgan, Andrew and Addison, many nieces, nephews, friends, the mother of his children Alexandra (aka Sandy) Maguire (Poulin) and former son-in-law John Selden. David graduated from Waterford Township High School in 1957. Before graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in active duty from 1956-1960 as a Machinist Mate. He served on the USS English (DD696) a WW2 Destroyer. After the Navy, David attended Flint Junior College and lived in the “Waterford House” with his lifelong friends. After Flint JC, he Graduated from Michigan State University with a Business Management Degree. He retired from General Motors after a 30-year career. He held various roles within GM including Superintendent at Central Foundry Division. After retiring from GM, he created a Lean Manufacturing Consulting Business and then finished his work career as an Associate Broker at Michigan Westshore Realty in Pentwater, MI. David resided in Fenton, MI with his wife Cynthia (married September 6th, 2003) and their beloved cat (Sheba) and dog (Cassie). David was an avid hunter his entire life. He had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Linden Presbyterian Church. Since moving back to the area David was involved with the Holly Post of the American Legion. David cherished his large family and his Irish heritage. Celebration of life will be at Dryer Funeral Home, 101 First St. Holly, MI on Saturday December 3, 2022. Visitation from 9-11 am preceding the service at 11 am. Luncheon to follow, details forthcoming. He will be laid to rest next to his parents at Andersonville Cemetery in Davisburg, MI. Donations may be made to the American Legion, Doctors Without borders or a donation of the giver’s choice.
