Delores C. Bishop

Delores C. Bishop nicknamed, Dede was born October, 11th, 1929 and passed on Sunday, August 6th 2023 She was 93 years. Dede (Delores C. Copening) was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, surrounded by a loving family of her great Aunt, Laura Saunders, nicknamed, Mama; Her Mother, Carrie E. Copening, nicknamed, Sister, an older brother, James Copening and a younger brother, Norris Copening. As time progressed she, became a surrogate mother to several nephews and a niece. Her mother and Great Aunt were also present. Dede married William M. Dunbar who committed to a life long career in the army. Dede and William attempted many times to conceive a child. After several miscarriages the couple were able to conceive a boy who was born William A. Dunbar in 1954. After the death of Mama, Dede's Great Aunt, she and her immediate family moved to Salinas, California in 1956 where her husband was stationed by the Army. Since Dede has been always a caregiver, she began a profession as a nurse. She has always cared for others whether it be family, friends or her profession. Caring for others is her character, she loved people! She also loved the Lord and serving in the church as a Life long Seventh-day Adventist. After the passing of her husband, Dede re-married to Mr. Esau Bishop. Unfortunately Mr. Bishop passed away after two years of their marriage from cancer. In 1986 Dede moved to Michigan to be with her son, William A. Dunbar and his family. She immediately joined the Holly Seventh-day Adventist Church where she has loved and been loved by her church family until passing. Dede is survived by her son, William Dunbar and his wife, Olha Dunbar; grandson, Ian Dunbar and his wife, Jasmine Dunbar; great-grandsons, Eli Dunbar and Abel Dunbar; grandson, Aaron Dunbar; granddaughter, Olivia Dunbar and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her passing are brothers, James Copening and Norris Copening; mother, Carrie E. Copening and father, James Copening; husband, Esau Bishop. We have been blessed by her soul, her character and her love. We look forward to being with her and our Lord again. Visitation will be from 11-12 AM Sun. Aug. 13, 2023 with Funeral Services following at 12 Noon with Pastor Daniel Ferraz officiating at the Holly Seventh Day Adventist Church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly at 2 PM Mon. Aug. 14, 2023.
