James and Kathie (Krause) Layman

Kathie Mae Layman, age 75, of Holly, MI died on Sunday May 12, 2024. Kathie was born in Holly, MI on November 24, 1948 to her parents Casmir and Vera (Hauer) Krause. She is survived by her husband James Michael Layman, children; James Marcus Layman, Sherry Lynn (Kent) Kleinschmidt and Casey Scott (Megan) Layman, grandchildren; Katelyn, Elizabeth, Abigail, Brighton, Lucy, Owen and Gwen, siblings; Dan Krause, Richard (Rene) Krause, Keith (Charlotte) Krause and Karen (Kevin) Dunklee. She was preceded in death by her parents Casmir and Vera Krause. Kathie worked as a social worker for the State of Michigan, making many lifelong friends along the way, as well as helping run the family business James Layman Well Drilling. She enjoyed playing golf, softball, bowling, snowmobiling, motorcycling and belonged to numerous card clubs. Most of all she loved vacations, family gatherings and spending time with the grandkids. Kathie always preached "patience and kindness". She took care of her mother for many years and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a very loving, hardworking and selfless woman who was always looking for an adventure. She will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held on Saturday June 1, 2024 from 1-3PM at the Dryer Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 4PM at the Holly VFW. A private family burial will take place after the visitation, guests are welcome to head straight to the luncheon for drinks and snacks. Memorial donations can be made to: Heartland Hospice. James Michael Layman, age 76, of Holly MI died on Tuesday May 28, 2024. He was born in Pontiac, MI on July 22, 1947 to his parents James N. and Guelda (Lewis) Layman. James is survived by his children James Marcus Layman, Sherry (Kent) Kleinschmidt and Casey (Megan) Layman, grandchildren; Katelyn, Elizabeth, Abigail, Brighton, Lucy, Owen and Gwen and siblings; Karen (Joe) Gazetti, Kristine Layman and Joel Layman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Kathie Mae (Krause) Layman, parents James and Guelda Layman, brothers; David Layman and Quentin Layman. James was a very hardworking business owner. He worked for 18 years for Pontiac Motors before purchasing the well drilling business from his father in 1987. Alongside his wife, they owned and operated Layman Well Drilling and he worked until the end. He was a great caregiver for his wife in her final years. He enjoyed hockey, golf, baseball/softball, recreational vehicles, traveling and vacations. James was a very unique and authentic person and will be greatly missed.
