Lucy A. Summers

Lucy A. Summers, 87, of Holly, Michigan, died peacefully in her sleep on December 10, 2017. She was surrounded by her beloved family. Lucy was born on August 14, 1930, in Providence, RI, to Liberato and Domenica (Galardo) Mangione, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to David L. Summers, of Holly, MI, on December 9, 1953. He preceded her in death on January 14, 2005. They were married for over 50 years. Lucy’s life was filled with love, laughter, and joy. Her first career was to raise six children. She then became the Holly Children’s Librarian. For 35 years she nurtured multiple generations of children in their love of reading and literature through her story hours and summer reading programs. When she retired, at the age of 85, she remained enthusiastic about staying involved in community activities such as bridge, yoga, and Mahjong, just to name a few. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Gregory Summers, Mitchellville, MD, Mark (Rebecca) Summers, Cincinnati, OH, Christopher Summers, Holly, MI, Natalie (Patrick) Reinkemeyer, Lake Forest, IL, Elizabeth (Earl) Fisher, Ann Arbor, MI, and Theodore Summers, Harbor, Springs, MI. Lucy also had 10 beautiful grandchildren: Angela (Mike Rothkopf) Summers, Carlotta Summers, Alex and Aaron Summers, Clara, Charlie, and Ben Reinkemeyer, and Andrew, Domenica, and Anthony Fisher. She is also preceded by her brothers Michael (Molly) and Anthony Mangione and sister-in-law Sharon Summers, and is survived by brothers Lee and William (Ellen) Mangione, sister Victoria (Charles) Maynard, and sisters-in-law Virginia Mangione and Lucy (Summers) Dipboye. Visitation will be at the Dryer Funeral Home, 101 S. First St., Holly, Michigan on Thursday, December 14th, from 3:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. There will also be a funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, Michigan on Friday, December 15th at 11:30 am. with visitation at the church from 10:30 - 11:30 AM before the Mass.
