Michalene Mary Plewa

Michalene Mary Plewa (but to everyone known as Mickey) a resident of Fenton, MI entered peacefully into eternal rest on September 13th, 2024 at the age of 70. Mickey was one of a kind! There are so many adjectives to describe her…brilliant, generous, sparkly, funny and fun, spunky, boisterous, caring, charitable, generous and faithful. Her favorite adjective for herself though was ZANY!!! She was born in Hamtramck, MI, and was 1 of 6 siblings (3 boys, 3 girls). Even though born in the U.S., she embraced her Polish heritage and enjoyed the food and traditions. She was a devout Catholic beginning in catholic grade school at St. Louis the King in Detroit and then went on to attend high school at St. Ladislaus Catholic High School in Hamtramck. Her catholic faith never faltered as she went on to serve for many years as a lector at St. Louis the King. When she could no longer attend masses, you can be assured that if you were a family member or friend, you were prayed for. In her later years, there was nothing more important than praying with and for her loved ones. Mickey found something to love about everyone. She especially adored her BFF (her sister Ronnie), her other siblings and in-laws, her nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews (she was “the coolest aunt ever!”), but her children were her 4 God-children Monica, Danielle, Courtney and Alex and her beloved dog Chelsea. Although Mickey never attended college, you’d think she’d had a PHD because she knew everything about everything. She was a walking ... well mostly sitting : ) encyclopedia. She would even predict your future as an avid tarot card reader. She began her work career as a secretary for a cardiologist and eventually worked and retired as a Systems Controller for the State of Michigan. Leading up to and especially into her retirement years, she took pleasure in collecting things. She especially enjoyed frequenting thrift stores to see what “treasures” she could find…and she found plenty! She also enjoyed playing cards, board games and early on loved the game of racquetball and could occasionally be found on a court in Hamtramck with one of her nieces or nephews. As long as she was able, another passion was her love of cooking and baking and she tried to follow in her mother’s footsteps making a few traditional polish family favorites like city chickens, spinach pies, pierogi and Chrusciki (or angel wings). More than anything, she loved eating them! : ) She also took pride in trying to replicate, in her words, her mother’s apple “best lip smacking finger licking pie ever!” When standing in the kitchen became too difficult, she most enjoyed watching her favorite tv programs or Disney movies. She was a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory and the Harry Potter movies. While in assisted living she also enjoyed canvas painting classes and completed upwards of 20 paintings which she proudly hung in her apartment or gifted to family members. Mickey was a special human being, a beloved family member and a true disciple of Christ. She will be missed, but we know the Lord has welcomed her to paradise. Mickey was preceded in death by her parents Filomen and Wanda Plewa, and brothers Anthony and Philip Plewa, and brother-in-law Norman Levasseur. Mickey is survived by her siblings Constance (Nicholas) Nagy, William (Carol) Plewa, and Veronica Levasseur, her sister-in-law Emily Plewa, her Nieces and Nephews…Donna (Steven) Sammut, Darlene (John) Mihelich, Diane (Joseph) Thompson, Holly (Noe) Gomez, Ray (Cheryl) Plewa, Richard (Laura Stewart) Plewa, Robert (Rita) Plewa, Ronald Plewa, Pamela Plewa, Jennifer (Dave) Penfound, Deanna Mantay, Patricia Staman, Monica (Matthew Fellows) Nagy, Andrea Laraway and Danielle (Mike Langlois) Levasseur, and her Grand-Nieces and Nephews…Courtney (Devan Fortin) Sammut, Alex (Ashlee) Sammut, Nicholas (Mays) Sammut, Lucas (Alana Paterra) Sammut, Marina Rae Mihelich, Anthony (Audrey Graham) Mihelich, Cheyenne (Tyler Francisco) Plewa, David Davis, Troy Plewa, Tanner Plewa, Kalven Plewa, Jolie Plewa, Alese Plewa, Dominic Plewa, Sophie Plewa, Mia Plewa, Olivia Mantay, Alex Staman, Sierra Staman, Spencer (Savanah) Laraway, Emmett Cluckey and Jacob Langlois. Her funeral visitation will be held at the Dryer Funeral Home at 101 First. St. in Holly, MI from 2pm-8pm on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 with a short vigil service at 5PM followed by memory sharing. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mark Evangelist Catholic Church at 7296 Gale Rd., Goodrich/Grand Blanc, MI at 10am Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 with instate at 9:30am. Mickey was an extremely charitable person.
