Richard McKerracher

Richard Lee McKerracher, age 73, of Holly, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, September 10th, 2016 peacefully and surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 22, 1942, the son of Hubert R. and Stella M. (Potter) McKerracher. He attended Farmington schools, graduating from Farmington High School in 1960. During high school, he found two of his lifetime loves...the saxophone and his wife of 51 years, Nancy Gilbeau. His father, Hubert, was a brick mason who taught him the trade and Richard made his living for 52 years as one of Michigan's most skilled brick masons. Richard then passed the family tradition down to his son, Todd. Richard found many passions in his life. He was first and foremost a devoted family man, loving them with his whole heart. He loved classic cars, jazz music, kayaking, camping, fishing and hunting. He was a talented saxophonist, who graced this world with beautiful music from the soul. Richard is survived by his wife, Nancy Gilbeau; daughter Tammy McKerracher of Fenton; daughter Cherrisse (Cam) TerBurgh of Linden; daughter Richelle (Craig) Taylor of Fenton; son Todd (Marcie) McKerracher of Grand Blanc; daughter Brittney (Kevin) Compton of Holly; sister Lynne (Tim) Diggan of Lakeland; grandchildren Alyssa, Chase, Dayton, Drew, Kaylie, Zachary and Rylee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Stella. Richard's wish was not to have a funeral, but a private celebration of his life for his family. He was beloved by many, with his kind heart and the ability to brighten a room just by being in it. He was always there for everyone who needed him, without question; and taught us all many valuable life lessons. Even at the end of his life, he taught us all the lesson of how precious life is. This world is a better place for having had him in it. Richard, we thank you for your love and the beautiful legacy you have left in this world.
