Mary Ann Barnes
May 21, 1952 - August 22, 2017
Mary went home to be with our LORD on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Mary was born on May 21st, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan, the 4th of 6 children to Anna Kornacki Laura and James E. Laura. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Heather Burke (Mike); Nicole Wilkerson (Dave); Kelly Teem (Clyde); her grandchildren: Jordan, Meagen, Trevor, Emmanuel, Magdelene, and Everett; sisters Ann Wolfbauer (Don); Martie Gerecke (Jeff); Melanie Calisterio (Dell); and her brother, Christopher Laura. Special Aunt and Great-Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Sweet loving friend to many. She was predeceased by her parents, Anna Laura and James E. Laura; brother James D. Laura; sister Janet Wolfbauer; and her beloved dog, Beau. Her grandson, Steven, departed this life shortly after her. Mary spent most of her childhood growing up in Detroit and Center Line, MI. A proud graduate of Center Line High School in 1970, it was here where she would meet and eventually marry her high school sweetheart, Steve. Mary and Steve would eventually make their home in the Waterford area. Mary had a spirt that was larger than life. She was a talented licensed Cosmetologist and was dedicated early in her career to her clientele at Golden Curl Beauty Salon in Center Line. She would go on to work at JC Penney Salon in Waterford, where she quickly worked her way up to Salon Manager and would earn her certification as a premier Skin Care Technician. Mary was a giver of her talents to many neighbors, family and friends by scheduling regular home visits for hair cuts and colors. She also spent many days volunteering her time at St Benedict School. She was a favorite parent to many students and staff at the school. She gave much of herself and her gifts to the church parish over many years. Mary loved spending time with her sisters and brother. She loved entertaining and opening her home to all. She would always go out of her way and made everyone feel welcome. She loved visits from her grandchildren, where she would always have on hand their favorite treats, movies and toys. And Grandma made the best homemade lemonade!! She loved sharing a family meal and cooking, passing on some of her favorite traditional polish dishes to her daughters. Mary was the ultimate gardener. A ‘green thumb’ like no other. She decorated her home with beautiful flowers and shrubbery. She could landscape anything into perfection. We will miss her warm, beautiful smile and sassy fanshionista style! Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Sat. Aug. 26, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Blanc with Monseigneur Jerry Vinke, Celebrant. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. A luncheon will follow at the Father Bush Parish Center of Holy Family Catholic Church. www.dryerfuneralhomeholly.com
