Mary Ione Samuel

May 21, 1934 - January 10, 2017

Mary Ione Samuel of Keego Harbor, MI passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 82 years of age. Ione was born May 21,1934, the daughter of Theodore and Inez (McKeachie) Samuel. She is survived by siblings Maureen Losh, Ivan Samuel, Ronald (Beverly) Samuel, Yvonne (Danny) Stack, Russell Samuel, Wayne (Alice) Samuel, sisters-in-law Sheryl Samuel and Gertrude Samuel, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Lester Samuel and Gerald Samuel. Ione was an excellent athlete and enjoyed many sports. She played shortstop/second base in fastpitch softball leagues for many years and was an accomplished bowler. Ione was also a fan of many professional and college teams. After graduation from Holly High School in 1951 she worked at the Holly Spring Factory. In 1954, she began working as a cashier at Wrigley's (TelHuron and Drayton). In 1958, she placed third in a national Wrigley's cashier-of-the-year contest. Later she worked at Ex-cell-o Corp. and GM. Ione retired from West Bloomfield School District Transportation Department in 2004. The family wishes to acknowledge Gayle Schram's dedication as caregiver. To honor Ione's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service.
