Fry, Robert Perry 1946-2018 Of Houghton Lake, Michigan, and Cape Coral, Florida, age 72, died of heart failure on Monday, August 6, 2018. The memorial celebration will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 19 at Dryer Funeral Home in Holly. Robert (Bob) was born on January 26, 1946, to the late Percy and Edith Fry in Flint. He grew up in Holly with his sisters Gail Fry, Connie (Fry) Kochenderfer and Karen (Fry) Guffin. Bob graduated from Holly High School. He married Cynthia Oistad on July 20, 1986, at Houghton Lake. Above all else, Bob loved Cindy, and Cindy loved Bob. Bob’s love of sports began in high school where he a varsity member of the Holly tennis team, which he greatly enjoyed. He also liked playing softball, tennis, basketball and running track. He was a follower of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and loved Michigan State football and basketball. Bob attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1968. He then joined the Peace Corps and served teaching math on the Caribbean Island of Nevis for two years. Bob loved to travel all over the world, from his earliest days of hitchhiking when he was a college student and traveled all over the U.S., Europe, Africa, and South America. “He brought the love of travel to our marriage and we continued traveling throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Europe,” Cindy said. “He also loved boating. From our first butterfly sailboat to speedboats to our final pontoon, he always enjoyed boating and being on the water.” Bob retired as a computer technician from Mott Community College in 2001 and loved retirement. “The six o’clock alarm never rings,” he said of achieving retirement. Bob loved living in Cape Coral, Florida, in the winter and enjoying the sun, beaches, the warmth and wildlife, specifically the plunging pelicans and dancing dolphins. Wherever Bob was friends and family were not far behind. Visitors enjoyed the pleasures of a winter getaway and the company of Bob and Cindy in Florida and the summer campfires and changing seasons in Houghton Lake. Bob loved the summers in Houghton Lake. “Life is good, celebrate, be proud!” he often said. He also loved “viewing the moment” and watching the birds, squirrels and deer as they played. One of Bob’s defining characteristics was his heart. He was generous and kind and had a soft spot for cats. For example, Bob picked a cat from a pet rescue in Fenton, named him Alfie and spoiled him daily. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters Gail Fry and Karen (Fry) Guffin. Survivors include his wife, Cindy; daughter, Monica Fry of Dexter, Michigan; sister Connie (Fry) Kochenderfer and her husband Eric of Fostoria, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. Cindy and Monica wish to thank the wonderful nurses, aides, doctors and all the great, hardworking staff on the 3rd floor at Mid-Michigan Midland Hospital.
