Lights dimmed and our hearts broke when he left us to join Joanna; his beautiful and loving wife of over 76 years, the love of his life who passed away May 9, 2017. Devoted father of Russell (Pam) Follick and Susan (Ken) Lybolt. Cherished grandfather of Ashley Lybolt (Steve Wrobel), Bronson (Jill) Follick, Terra Follick (James Korsadal), Tyler (Amy) Lybolt and Kye Follick. Dear great grandfather of Jackson & Annalia Follick and Emry Lybolt. Brother of the late Wilburt (Bud) Follick, Dorothy DuNann and baby sister Thelma Follick. Russell also leaves many adored nieces and nephews. A private funeral will take place on March 12th at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. A memorial celebration of his life is planned for later this Spring. Russell was born in Highland Park, Michigan to parents Wilburt and Bertha (Belle) Follick. He worked at Excello Corp., Detroit Electric and retired from Michigan Rivet Corporation in 1983. Russell and Joanna married in 1940. They moved into their cozy Royal Oak home in 1951 and were fortunate to reside there for the remainder of their long lives together. Russ was always the perfect gentleman who was one of a kind, lived his life his own way and followed his passions. Known for his kind heart and fun, playful nature. He loved watching the Red Wing games and played hockey with a group of much younger friends well into his late 70's. Deer hunting and walleye fishing in northern Ontario were two favorite hobbies that he pursued well into his late 80's/early 90's. Russell always had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a big grin on his face. He loved telling fun stories from his childhood and many adventures. He enjoyed golfing and learned to ski in his 60's. He loved skiing with his children and grandchildren at Boyne Mountain and hunting for morel mushrooms in Gaylord. Spending time with friends and family at his home in Royal Oak or cottage in Gaylord brought him much happiness. Russ took the time to pray every day and a devote member of his beloved Kingdom Hall congregation and loved the brothers and sisters there. Russ was known as a mechanical genius. He could fix anything, no manual, no directions and without any help. He could solve any issue and loved helping friends, neighbors and family with any type of project. He amazed his neighbors by cutting his one car garage in half with a chainsaw, moved it back on rollers to a concrete foundation behind it and turned it into a 2-1/2 car garage all on his own. Please join us in celebrating the outstanding life he led and be grateful for the lives he touched in his incredible 100 years on this earth. His memory will live on in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Russell made the world a better place and we are all better for knowing and loving him. His love for us was a true blessing we will always cherish. www.dryerfuneralhomeholly.com
