Kay Janice Phillips

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Kay Janice Phillips (75) of Holly, Michigan who passed away on Saturday, September 11th peacefully at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI with her husband Tom Phillips and two children Alan & Michelle by her side. Kay was born on May 1, 1946, in Madrid, NY to Floyd & Luna (Hale) Trombley. She was an academically successful young woman achieving 4.0 throughout school while playing the trumpet. She graduated early from Madrid Waddington High School and went immediately to St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing in Ogdensburg, NY graduating in their 75th class of nursing in 1966. Upon graduation, she became a registered nurse at Sunmount State School in Tupper Lake, NY. She married Joseph “P-2” LeBlanc in October 1967 and had two children. Twelve years later, she moved her two young children to South Florida and continued her nursing career at Lee Memorial Hospital, Able Care, Bon Secor. She loved nursing, caring for her patient’s and during the final years of her career loved providing education around living wills and health care proxies. During her time in South Florida, Kay enjoyed spending time with family, friends, the Florida sunshine, entertaining, playing cards, dice and any game. She was very competitive. In 2003, Kay married Tom F. Phillips, Jr. relocating to Michigan. She continued her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomfield Hills & Havenwyck Hospital. She was an active member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. She loved going out to lunch with her friends, participating in her book club and traveling on small adventures with her husband to visit friends and family. Kay was an avid letter writer and communicated regularly to almost 200 people with homemade cards, letters & humor. She loved remembering friends and family’s special occasions to make them happy. “Giving is so much better than receiving.” Kay is survived by her husband Tom F. Phillips, Jr.; daughter Michelle Blair (partner Wally Porter) of Poultney, Vermont; son, Alan LeBlanc (Kelli) of Ft. Myers, FL; sisters Rosanna Thomas (Al) of Boulder, CO; Joyce Trombley of Wappingers Falls, NY; Freda Himschoot (Pat) of Ft. Myers, Florida; grandson Connor LeBlanc; mother-in-law Loraine Phillips; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles. She was predeceased by her parents Floyd & Luna Trombley, brother Erwin Trombley, father-in-law Tom Phillips and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be provided by Dryer Funeral Home with a mass at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Holly, MI on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 1pm.
