Marion Zygmunt Sokolowski

Marion Zygmunt Sokolowski, MD also known as “Dad,” “Doc,” and “Dzia Dzia,” 86, of Holly, Michigan, passed away on June 25, 2021. Marion was born in Detroit, Michigan to Frank and Irene Sokolowski, the youngest of 3 siblings. In addition to his parents, Marion also was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy and Alfred. Marion, a selfless, loving, kind and charismatic gentleman, grew up to become a physician, which he possessed a great passion for and remained practicing medicine well into his 80s. When asked what kind of doctor he was, he simply responded with “A good doctor!” After medical school, Marion met the love of his life, Elizabeth, who also predeceased him in 1998. They fell in love and raised a family in Bloomfield, Hills, complete with Laura (Robert) and Andre (Dora). As a family, they loved to travel, but most importantly, they loved each other. Being a kind, dependable husband and father was of the utmost importance to Marion and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly and unconditionally loving his family. Marion also had three grandchildren, Bella, Calli and Briana, whom he loved very much. His talents, intelligence, dance floor moves and comedic made him one in a zillion. Dad was full of zingers and one-liners that he was well known for. Here is small sampling of his clever quips: “Me-rrrrry Christmas!” and “Hap---pppy New Year!” when it wasn’t either holiday or even close, just his way of greeting on the phone or in person. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” or “And remember – (long pause leaving the listener asking remember what?) - because I already forgot,” were the usual lines he left us with when we’d depart. To the question “How are you feeling?” his famous response: “With my fingers!” and the usual “Food is food” when asked if he liked the meal. “How’d you sleep?” another famous response: “With my eyes closed!” We could fill a book with the lighthearted humor and play on words he spent a lifetime sharing. The snazziest of dressers, Marion will forever be remembered for his jokes and pranks to everyone he met – patients, strangers and family alike - always putting a smile on your face. He touched many lives and his generous contributions to his family and community cannot be understated. An intimate memorial service will be held in the immediate future for family . At some point in time, as he wished, his ashes will be spread out in the Atlantic Ocean, reunited once again with his wife.
