Mary M. Sherman

Mary Margaret Sherman, age 82, has officially graduated from this life to the great choir in the sky, where we’re guessing she’s already organizing the heavenly potluck and teaching angels to imitate silly bird calls. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Mary was the eldest of 14 siblings, which means she was basically the CEO of patience and kindness from day one. She was a registered nurse who specialized in pre- and post-operative care, proving she could handle anything from a cranky patient to a family holiday dinner with equal grace. Mary’s hobbies included singing in the choir at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, volunteering at her kids’ schools, and filling her home with enough holiday spirit to make even the Grinch smile. She was also known for her penchant to mimic peacocks, turkeys, and loons — a talent that left many wondering if she was part loon herself. Her kindness was legendary; she rarely said no, except maybe when asked to stop making those bird noises or mooing at cows along the roadside. Mary is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and a flock of siblings who will miss her dearly. Eldest of 14 children, she was blessed with 9 sisters Carol (Jim) Anderson, Nancy (Bruce) Patterson, Betty Hodgeson, Sharon (Bob) Wilber, Bobbie Lynch, Jeanie (Pat) Hall, Judy (Kenn) Domerese, Cathy (David) Thrash, Dorothy (Arnie) Warner, Plus 4 brothers - Matt Bauer, Jim (Kathy) Bauer, and Joe (Peggy) Bauer, Mike (Rose) Bauer preceded her in death as well as both parents, George Peter Bauer and Geneveive Marie Vaske Bauer, and her husband Richard John Sherman. Three children Julia Sherman, Jim (Cynthia) Sherman, and Jean Norman. Her grandchildren are Emily, Delaney, Alyssa, Keirsten, Haley, and Garrett. Services will be held on Thursday, December 11th, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Holly, with visitation at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. Guests are invited to a luncheon at Holly Moose afterward, where stories and laughter will surely be shared. If you knew Mary, you knew kindness, patience, and a little bit of crazy. She may have flown up to heaven, but her spirit and laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
